Sedna Ingress into Gemini
In many ways it feels miraculous to be writing this blog having recently anchored into a new life where I can swim in the sea every day. Part of my daily practice of living well is to offer my swim as a prayer to the sea each day. This morning she is very calm, I can see through her clear waters to the colourful pebbles and seaweeds of many species below. This story I want to write about her is clear and bubbling forth for expression in my mind. Other days she is tempestuous, always she is responding to the wind and the tides and constantly in motion. Like myself she is emotional and restless. Another reason for my swims even in winter is to affirm my determination to meet life with grace in all its twists and turns.
Sedna was discovered on the 14th November 2003, and I have long been fascinated by this first Trans-Neptunian Object named for the Inuit Goddess who rules the Arctic Oceans. When I first heard her myth in my thirties I could feel her pain, and I wrote a parallel story of my own relationship with my Father. I recall also many years ago having an Astrology reading done in Glastonbury and her card came up in the centre – how wonderful so many years later I should manifest this relationship and place to live overlooking a major sacred site St Michael’s Mount where I can explore Sedna and the ocean itself more deeply. As my wonderful Marine Biologist friend in Santa Cruz, California reminded me the other day “there is only one ocean”.
Sedna is going to make her ingress into Gemini on the 12 June moving from the Fixed Earth sign of Taurus into the Mutable Air sign of Gemini. So there is a big elemental shift here from that which is fixed and seems immovable as a mountain to that which is permeable and suddenly changes direction without warning. My first feeling is that there may be some big, unexpected shifts of things which have previously seem stuck in relation to ocean environmentalism and the key mythical themes chartered below. This change is one of a number of TNO’s changing signs and Varda transiting the Galactic Centre - more on that below.
Breaking with cultural female roles
The most commonly relaid story of Sedna we in Western countries hear is that she was an independent woman who did not want to marry and loved to hunt. This key point I feel is often overlooked, but it does give us a sense of Sedna’s strength and strong inner masculine qualities and also that she is not inclined to follow the cultures’ expectations. In Indigenous cultures and in difficult survival conditions like the Arctic, such rules around family are important and often very rigid. So while today it is commonplace for generations to quantum leap out of cultural norms, for the Inuit it would be highly unusual. So this is a first key to consider of where Sedna is in your chart – how did you express your independence and if you are male perhaps you had a Sedna like relative in your midst?
Struggle with the betrayal of key males
Eventually Sedna does marry a stranger from afar which would also be unusual for that culture. The man turns out to be a not very pleasant Bird shaman and captures her in a nest in freezing cold conditions.
I can relate to this part of the story of ending up in a physically abusive relationship in my twenties. It was incredible looking back how my independence and strength leaked away in these disempowering conditions, and that I was at the heart of allowing it. It took many years to claw back my freedom. I had a diagnosis of PTSD for some 7 years so there was a lot of inner freedom and responsibility to changing my emotional patterns that had to shift. I feel also there are other levels of this pattern that are more prevalent in our society. Women are conditioned to give up their power and creativity to men, and so even when both parties don’t want that it can start creeping in along with resentment and the feeling of being trapped in a relationship that is not nurturing. Sedna can help us access higher frequencies in ourselves and turn these patterns around.
The radical chain breaker
Recently I was offered another Sedna Myth by a colleague Astrologer Deirdre Siobhan Murphy and it kind of blew my mind. It’s very disturbing to read (see link at the bottom of the article) where Sedna is less the victim and more the aggressor against her family eating the arms and legs. It took me a while to digest and open to it, but it took me on a deeper mythical journey than I had experienced – that of the family pattern chain breaker.
At the time I read this second story I was in a difficult place with my parents. My father has Parkinson’s and during the pandemic my parents had become quite dependant on me for shopping etc. and in many ways this wasn't a problem for a while. However, as can often happen in parent daughter relationship it started to get fraught and I realised a whole layer of the expectations on me to give up my life and become a full time carer were because I was female. I didn’t want to do this and it caused a lot of anger and upset on their part.
I made a very difficult choice to step back from the situation and although initially it was pretty fraught we are in a good place now. A small amount of contact by Whats App full of love as opposed to a lot of contact full of resentment, unmet expectations and me feeling my soul was dying slowly but surely.
Having made the choice to step back new people came along instantaneously and stepped into my roles doing the job much better than I ever could have done. Also I see in hindsight that I needed to be free to fulfil my destiny and take this new direction – a new partner and all the healing that brings and a new place to make a relationship with the Earth and the Sea in Cornwall.
Political corruption and the environment
Another level of gaining clarity about the bigger environmental issues Sedna flags up has come in the past month through the new series of Borgen filmed in Denmark and available on Netflix.
Here we see how well meaning and passionate politicians are corrupted and pressurised by old colonial relationships between Denmark and Greenland and also the influence of the USA on international politics. As well as getting an excellent and realistic insight into the Inuit culture of Greenland, the political issues will keep you on the edge of your seat. Its so well done, spot on in clarifying the need for absolute integrity if we are to be the voice of the Ocean and Gaia.
The Big Change of Signs
Manwe (whose twin flame is Varda crossing the Galactic Centre) has been hovering in the early degrees of Aries for a while beginning a new cycle. He is the Archangelic presence who is chief of the 14 Archangels in the Silmarillion by Tolkien who created the Middle Earth through songs. He was in relation to Jupiter for many months at the beginning of the year expanding his field. He is in Gene Key 25 leading from Constriction to Acceptance to Universal Love.
Haumea the New Earth Hawaiian Goddess of Rebirth is at 29 Libra soon to ingress into Scorpio
Mors – Somnus is hanging out with Sedna in the late degrees of Taurus and is all about the passage between dreaming and death so very relavant it feels to the Sedna themes. His energies bring things from the deep subconscious for healing. They are both adding pressure to pop us into our unique style and exquisiteness in Gene Key 8.
Poetic Centaur Orius is hanging out with Pluto on the cusp of Aquarius and Capricorn in Gene Key 60 leading from Limitation to Divine Justice. Orius in charts such as Nelson Mandela’s are thought to influence a disposition towards Justice. Pluto is in a dynamic challenging Square to Haumea and Eris the Goddess of Discord creating many cracks in the world. May Varda the Creator of Stars at the Galactic Centre fill these cracks with light and new narratives of positivity – we can do this!
